Monday, 31st March 2014 marked the launch of TXFM, a new Dublin radio station aimed at alternative and new music enthusiasts. Broadcasting on 105.2FM across Dublin City and County, TXFM features some new and recognisable names.
With a commitment to specialist music shows, new and unsigned Irish acts and partnerships with live events and festivals, TXFM aims to create a distinctive attitude, philosophy and sound catering for the young Dublin market.
While the main focus of TXFM is on authentic music, the schedule features everything from alternative rock and Americana, to modern soul and electronica and the whole resurgence of vinyl as a format. TXFM also has a strong commitment to contemporary Irish music.
The main presenter line-up features familiar names including Claire Beck, John Caddell, Cathal Funge, Kelly-Anne Byrne and Joe Donnelly, while new shows are fronted by Derek Byrne, Dee Reddy and Orlagh Donnelly.
Respected music blogger, Niall Byrne (Nialler9) fronts a two hour slot every Thursday night, playing his curated choice of new music. Dublin musician, producer and regular with Lisa Hannigan’s band, Gavin Glass, presents an alt. Country and roots show on Tuesdays.
TXFM has made a virtue of bringing new voices to air and the schedule boasts four new presenters from digital music station, FRQ, covering new music, sports and specialist shows.
Other programme highlights include ‘Songs in the key of Life, a contemporary ‘desert island downloads’, presented by Nadine O’Regan, featuring great guests from music and cultural fields; ‘Totally Dublin’, a Saturday morning show compiled by the magazine of the same name, showcasing the best of what’s on in the city. On Sundays, ‘The Set List’ features great indie sessions from Ireland and across Europe. TXFM has also joined forces with well known club promoters, Bodytonic to front a Saturday night show entitled ‘Pogo Radio’ show featuring different DJ’s from the circuit each week.
