Today FM takes a bite of the Big Apple

The nominees for the New York Festivals International Radio Awards have been announced and Today FM has scooped five nominations for the prestigious ceremony.

Matt Cooper and The Last Word team have been nominated in the Best Talk/Interview Special for their ‘Remembering Tony’ broadcast, a two-and-a-half hour programme which aired the day that Today FM DJ Tony Fenton passed away. The show featured interviews and contributions from friends, colleagues and musicians who all payed tribute to the broadcasting legend in a lovely upbeat rememberance.

Dermot Whelan (Dermot & Dave) is nominated in the Health category for his podcast series ‘Booze Chronicles’ where he talks about his experiences and reaction to giving up the gargle.

In the Social Issues category the station is represented by Mary Carroll’s series Modern Family which looks at the diversity in the make-up of contemporary family unit.

Today FM News and Sports are also in the running with Juliette Gash’s coverage of the plight of Syrian refugees left stateless in Lebanon camps nominated for Best Coverage Of Ongoing News Story and the Championship Sunday series ‘Meet The Managers’ in contention for Best Sports Special.

The final selection takes place on June 22, 2015 in New York City.
