TODAY FM heads to L.A. for the Special Olympic World Games

Team Ireland is on its way to the the Special Olympics World Summer Games in L.A. with 88 athletes competing in 13 different sports representing Ireland. Accompanied by a 40-strong coaching team, they will take part in everything from athletics to equestrian.

The Irish are among 7,000 athletes from 177 countries who will attend Saturday’s opening ceremony in the Los Angeles Coliseum. The star-studded event will feature First Lady Michelle Obama, Ireland’s Colin Farrell and olympic legend Michael Phelps…oh, and our very own Ian Dempsey will be there too!

A longtime patron of Special Olympics, Ian has broadcast live from previous Special Olympics World Games and this year is no different. The Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show will be coming to you live from L.A. for the full duration of the Games. The first broadcast will take place on Friday 24th July and continue through to Friday 31st July with lots of great guests lined up including many of the competing athletes.
