Today FM is delighted to announce that Today FM’s Shave or Dye Campaign has just passed the €1,000,000 mark, for the Irish Cancer Society.
The campaign kicked off in February this year and saw The Ray D’Arcy Show break a World Record by shaving 315 heads in 1 hour by a team of 10 barbers. Ian Dempsey dyed his hair orange, Matt Cooper went purple, Ray Foley and JP Gilbourne went green and blue respectively and Ray D’Arcy had his chest waxed!
Thousands of events took place all across the country with everyone from primary schools to big corporations such as Intel taking part. In addition, the campaign saw sporting heroes such as the Irish Cricket Team and Special Olympians get involved. Just about every walk of life in modern Ireland rose to the challenge.
A delighted Ian Dempsey spoke on the news, “What a way to start the long week-end! 1 million euro for this fantastic cause. We were blown away by everyone organising their own Shave or Dye events. The Irish public are brilliant!”
The latest data from the National Cancer Registry of Ireland indicates that there were 29,775 new cases of cancer diagnosed in 2009 and new cancer cases are expected to reach over 40,000 by the year 2020.
If you are concerned about or affected by cancer, please call the National Cancer Helpline on Freefone 1800 200 700 for advice, support and information. Staffed by specialist cancer care nurses and open Monday – Thursday 9am – 7pm and Fridays 9am – 5pm.

TODAY FM’S SHAVE OR DYE 2011
Press Release – January 2011
Shave or Dye – promises to be BIGGER, BRIGHTER and BALDER than ever!
Shave or Dye launched last year and saw Today FM presenters shaving or dyeing their hair. True to form Today FM listeners did the same. The outcome was nothing short of phenomenal. €800,000 was raised for patient care services provided by the Irish Cancer Society with people lending their support the length and breadth of the country.
Shave or Dye 2011 will kick off on Monday, 31st, January with Today FM DJ’s asking the nation for their help again. To get involved … we are asking listeners to shave, dye or host a Shave or Dye event by logging onto www.todayfm.com/shaveordye.
Donations can also be made by texting SHAVE to 57080 – texts cost €2 with a minimum of €1.60 donated to the Irish Cancer Society.
