Newstalk 106-108fm has announced that Dr Ciara Kelly will join the station to present a brand new Sunday morning show, Alive and Kicking, sponsored by Laya Healthcare. Ciara’s new show will focus on health, wellbeing and lifestyle and will include interviews and expert advice on a range of topical issues.

Dr Ciara Kelly is a GP, broadcaster and award-winning columnist. She is no stranger to Newstalk as she is the resident medical expert on George Hooks’ Health Check Up on High Noon each Monday afternoon; she is presenter of RTÉ’s Doctors on Call; medical expert on RTÉ’s Operation Transformation and writes a weekly column called Doctors Orders in The Sunday Independent.

Commenting on the announcement, Dr Ciara Kelly said: “I’m very excited to be joining the Newstalk weekend line-up. I love contributing to George Hook’s ‘High Noon’ show, and I’m looking forward to offering another platform to help people improve all aspects of their own health and wellbeing. It will be exciting being the one asking all the questions, so I hope to cultivate a really interesting mix of guests to interview on my show. I’m looking forward to strengthening my relationship with Newstalk, and I hope the new show will offer an entertaining hour of insights and discussion for my audience!”

Garrett Harte, Newstalk Editor-in-Chief, also commented on the announcement: “We are delighted to announce Ciara Kelly’s addition to the Newstalk weekend team. Ciara has used her expertise and experience to educate the country about the importance of a healthy lifestyle and how to take better care of themselves and we’re excited to give her a different arena to build on this message. Ciara is a fantastic addition to Newstalk’s line-up and we hope her show will build on the great success of the Colette Fitzpatrick show and continue to introduce Newstalk to a wider audience.”

Alan Morris, Advertising Brand Manager of Laya Healthcare, said: “At Laya Healthcare we are really interested in preventative healthcare. As well as looking after our 500,000+ members when they are unwell, we believe in the importance of early-intervention to keep people healthy. We are the only Irish health insurer that offers free cardiac screenings for members and we sponsor a unique health homework programme called Super Troopers in Irish schools, to embed positive health habits from an early age. In addition, we are the largest provider of corporate health and wellness programmes in Ireland.

We are very pleased to sponsor Ciara’s Alive and Kicking Show on Newstalk 106-108fm. Ciara will bring her energy and expertise and will get the nation talking about health and wellness issues and the importance of a healthy lifestyle.”

Dr. Ciara Kelly qualified as a doctor in 1997 from UCD and was a medal winner in her graduation class, achieving First Class Honours in General Practice.  She is a partner in Carrig Clinic, a family practice in Greystones. She also teaches General Practice to medical students and Post Graduate Doctors from UCD and Trinity.
