Today FM’s 3rd annual Shave or Dye campaign for the Irish Cancer Society was launched in January and has raised over €250,000 this year. With over 8,000 events still to run the length and breadth of the country, the number of events for Shave or Dye 2012 has tripled that of last year’s campaign, which went on to raise over €1.37 million.
Ireland’s cancer rate is one of the highest in the world. 1 in 3 people will be diagnosed with cancer during their lifetime and it is estimated that by 2020, 40,000 new cases will be diagnosed. Latest data from the National Cancer Registry shows that 29,775 people were diagnosed with cancer in Ireland in 2009. These stark figures mean that there is an ever increasing demand for the direct patient care services provided by the Irish Cancer Society.
