Newstalk Chief Executive Steps Down

Elaine Geraghty has decided to step down as Chief Executive of Newstalk 106-108 fm and will be pursuing a PhD at Dublin Institute of Technology. The new Chief Executive of Newstalk will be Frank Cronin, who has represented Setanta Holdings on the Board of Newstalk since 2002.
Elaine Geraghty has been Chief Executive at Newstalk since 2005 and has held a number of positions with the Communicorp Group since 1989. Ms Geraghty informed the Board of her intention to resign a number of months ago but agreed to remain with the station as it moved to its new home at Marconi House in Dublin. Elaine led the station through the successful national licence application process and its transformation from a Dublin based news station into the first Irish national talk radio commercial operator. “Newstalk has made such progress and I have worked with a tremendous team here at the station. It’s been a great experience but now I am looking forward to a new challenge.”
Denis O’Brien, Chairman of Newstalk, thanked Elaine Geraghty for her significant contribution and said “Elaine has worked with Communicorp Group for twenty years including roles at 98FM, at Communicorp Group Radio Operations in Europe and for the last three and a half years in Newstalk. She has been an outstanding colleague and friend. The Board would like to thank her for the immense job she has done at Newstalk in bringing the station to where it is today. On a personal level I want to sincerely thank her and wish her well for the future”. In a separate development Ms. Geraghty has been invited by Denis O’Brien to join the Boards of Dublin’s 98 and Spin South West.
Mr. O’Brien welcomed Mr. Frank Cronin as the new Chief Executive of Newstalk. Frank Cronin has worked with Setanta, one of Newstalk’s founding investors, since February 2000 and has represented Setanta on the Newstalk Board. Frank led the commercial development of Setanta’s business in Ireland and developed the company’s worldwide online and broadband business. He has been involved with Newstalk since its inception and was Head of the Editorial Committee of Newstalk. He was previously Managing Director of the Sunday Tribune and is a Chartered Accountant.
Frank Cronin will join Newstalk as Chief Executive over the coming weeks and Elaine Geraghty will remain in her position until then and will assist with a handover.
