Newstalk 106-108 fm in a state of Emergency

12th March 2009

Every couple of decades, Ireland slips into a recession and every time it does a brilliant political satire act to help us all get through it. In the 70’s it was Hall’s Pictorial Weekly, in the 90’s it was Scrap Saturday and now the time has come for The Emergency on Newstalk 106-108 fm.

The Emergency is an up to the minute sketch show in the great tradition of Scrap Saturday and Spitting Image….without the puppets! No one will be safe as all sides of the political divide and the shady cabals in our midst are exposed and lampooned.

Characters include everyone from Brian Cowen, Sean Dunne, DeValera, Sean Fitzpatrick, Miriam O’Callaghan and Vincent Browne to Newstalk’s own such as George Hook….the list is endless!

The six satirists who make up The Emergency are Morgan Jones, Eoin Byrne, Joe Taylor, Dermot Carmody, Karen Ardiff and Nick McGiveney.

Newstalk gives this team the freedom of speech that a government station wouldn’t even dare! Expect something very different and closer to the bone than anything you have ever heard before on Irish radio.

Frank Cronin, Newstalk CEO says “Comedy permits our station to say things that otherwise would be difficult to say and in the times we are in that is important. So like its predecessor, The Emergency will annoy, provoke and stimulate us to have another look at ourselves.”

The Emergency on Newstalk 106–108 fm, every Saturday 11.30am – 12.00pm.
