Communicorps Metroradio Finland receives license extensions, additional coverage.
2nd June 2006
On May 31st 2006 the Finnish Government announced the outcome of the radio frequency tender, which would define the commercial radio landscape from January 1st 2007 until December 31st 2012.
As a result of the tender, Communicorp’s Finnish radio group, Metroradio Finland OY, was awarded licenses for 3 quasi-national networks and one local station in Helsinki. The new licenses will provide additional coverage for Communicorp’s existing radio networks Suomipop (10 additional frequencies), Groove FM (4 additional frequencies), Classic Radio (3 additional frequencies).
As a result of the tender, Metroradio Finland becomes the only radio group to operate three near-national networks and one local station. Henrik Resman, Managing Director of Metroradio Finland, said “We are very pleased with the outcome and believe that it reflects our long-time contribution to the plurality of the Finnish radio market. We are the only radio group to offer the Finnish listener specialized radio formats, and are happy that we will be able to continue to serve our loyal audiences throughout Finland with an even larger national coverage”
Metroradio Finland operates SuomiPop, a Finnish pop and rock music network; Groove FM, a jazz and soul network; Classic Radio, a popular classical music network and Metro FM, a local station servicing the capital city of Helsinki with local news and an adult contemporary format.
