Newstalk’s Dil Wickremasinghe receives Frederick Douglass Award

Newstalk presenter Dil Wickremasinghe has received the first ever Frederick Douglass Award as one of Lord Mayor Oisin Quinn’s Awards ‘for making a significant contribution to the life of Dublin and Dubliners’.

Dil gave a really inspiring and emotional speech in which she recounted some of the many difficulties she encountered in her younger years, before she came to Dublin, and then how, when she arrived in Ireland. ‘Dublin took her under her wing’.

She has never looked back.  Dil spoke movingly about how Newstalk, over six years ago, gave her her first real break doing what she loves more than anything else – broadcasting.

Through her endless advocacy of causes such as equality, human rights and social issues in Ireland Dill has, in a short time, become a major influencer and opinion leader in Ireland.
