The Newstalk team rolled into Stradbally on 4th September for our inaugural trip to Electric Picnic. We were delighted to be part of the Mindfield area over the course of the event and had lots of visitors to the Newstalk Lounge during the festival.
Sean Moncrieff, broadcasted live from the Newstalk Lounge on Friday, with Movies and Booze making it’s Electric Picnic debut. Our resident music guru Tom Dunne was also on site across the weekend and met with festival organiser Melvin Benn as well as a host of other guests.
Newstalk’s Off The Ball had a busy weekend and the Newstalk Lounge was packed for the Dublin v Mayo in the football replay and Kilkenny and Galway in the hurling final. We also had a special feature interview with Kilkenny Superstar, DJ Carey.
There was a busy Splanc programme from the Newstalk Lounge with a special guest appearance from Hector O’hEochagáin. While, on Saturday Pat Kenny went head to head with technology in Pat Kenny’s Technology Tests. Pat looked back to see how far we have come and if it really ‘does what it says on the tin’.
Newstalk’s newsest recruit Colette Fitzpatrick hosted a live political panel live in the Newstalk Lounge and discussed the issues that will dictate the formation of the next government. Finally on Saturday Henry McKean took us down memory lane, reminding us of things we miss from the decade with Newstalk’s 90’s Nostalgia.
Down to Business kicked off Sunday with a business panel that looked at the business of music, from record labels, to independent artists and the concert promoters. Paying homage to the late Cilla Black, George hosted his own, unique version of the popular Blind Date on Sunday afternoon in the Newstalk Lounge. The Newstalk Lounge wrapped up the weekend talking about festival head-liners Blur with our Talking History special where we debated Blur v Oasis!
