Newstalk’s Off The Ball hosted the biggest outside broadcast in the station’s history on Wednesday 14th October when they invaded the 3Arena for a Rugby World Cup special in front of over 4000 of the show’s fans.Ger Gilroy, Joe Molloy and Colm Parkinson hosted the event along with Ireland’s greatest ever rugby player Brian O’Driscoll.
The atmosphere was electric as the team built up to Ireland’s World Cup quarter final with Argentina which would take place the following Sunday.The Pumas were well represented too with their former captain and Leinster legend Felipe Contepomi in attendance.
Brian O’Driscoll’s favourite ever player and double World Cup winner with Australia Tim Horan was also in attendance and he reminisced about great days in Dublin with the Wallabies.
The lads also welcomed the ever popular Keith Wood and Stephen Ferris as well as former Ireland coach Eddie O’Sullivan who all urged caution ahead of the clash with Argentina.
It was a packed night of rugby nostalgia and analysis, entertainment, skills challenges and even a special performance by Newstalk’s Tom Dunne, who donned a tuxedo and sang the show out with “Don’t Cry for me Argentina”
