Newstalk is the first and only station to bring TED Radio Hour to Ireland, the show will take listeners on a journey through fascinating ideas, astonishing inventions, and new ways to think and create.
TED seeks out suitable partners in various countries throughout the world and Newstalk, Ireland’s fastest growing radio station was approached to be its Irish partner. Since its official launch in March 2013, TED Radio Hour has become the fastest growing program in public radio history.
Every Sunday the show will be centred around talks given by riveting speakers on the renowned TED stage, bound together by a common theme such as the thrill of space exploration, going to extremes, the source of happiness or ‘when rights goes wrong’ in the justice system.
Commenting on today’s announcement, Gerard Whelan, Newstalk Chief Executive said, ‘TED has grown into the most recognized global platform for identifying and spreading transformative ideas. It is a great honour to be chosen as the first and only radio partner for TED Radio Hour in Ireland.’
Mr Whelan continued, ‘We are constantly looking for innovative ways which will allow us to bring our listeners compelling, relevant and informative content – therefore the partnership with TED Radio Hour is the perfect match for us. The show will give us an opportunity to step back from the frantic pace of news, and instead explore ideas and issues which will give listeners a fresh perspective on a range of topics not found at any other station.’
Each week the one hour show will be hosted by Guy Raz, an award winning journalist and radio host at National Public Radio, the company who collaborated with TED to bring the conferences to a radio audience. Previously, Raz was weekend host of NPR News’ signature afternoon newsmagazine All Things Considered.
