Category: News

Dublin, Wednesday, 17th June 2014: Today FM has announced that well known radio duo; Dermot Whelan and Dave Moore, from Dublin station, 98FM will shortly grace the national airwaves. The pair, who has been with 98FM for 12 years, will join Ian, Ray, Louise, Tony and rest of the Today FM team in August.

The two presented the award-winning Breakfast show on the Dublin station for eight years before moving to host their ‘Dermot & Dave Show’ in the drive-time slot four years ago.

As well as being one half of radio’s loveable twosome, comedian Whelan has hosted RTE’s ‘Republic of Telly’ and was a regular on ‘The Panel’. On the comedy circuit, Dermot has performed at both Kilkenny’s Cat Laughs and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Dermot’s partner in radio, Dave Moore, is an accomplished comedy writer, songwriter and music producer. His list of credits include Des Bishop and Podge & Rodge alongside films, TV shows and commercials.

Commenting on the news, Dave Moore said: “98fm gave us the chance to develop and grow. But taking the chemistry that Dermot and I have to the entire country on Today FM is an amazing opportunity. It’s the station we’ve admired for years and we know we’ll really enjoy making more great radio every weekday and we hope Ireland enjoys it too!”

Dermot Whelan added: “Other broadcasters have come knocking over the years to try and attract us away but to be honest, the creative track record and reputation of Today FM over so many years made it a simple enough decision to join their stellar line-up. “We’re very excited about moving to Today FM and look forward to having the craic with a wonderful national audience”.

Speaking about the duo’s move to Today FM, Peter McPartlin, CEO of Today FM said, “Today FM has always prided itself on a strong line-up of personalities that are loved by listeners right across the country. Given their pedigree, it’s a real coup for us to add Dermot and Dave to that existing pool of talent. We’re all very excited about what this pair will bring to the station”.
