Communicorp Digital was established in recognition of the importance of digital in the media landscape. Communicorp has been proactive in embracing digital as an integral part of the business. We are not a radio group, but a media group and strive to innovate in cross platform initiatives.

Media Player

Communicorp was the first Irish Media company to create a Media Player, which collects all audio and video content, including a 7 day listen back service. The player is fully viral, can be shared on social networks and we included the ability for bloggers to embed audio on their own sites.

 
Upwardly Mobile

Once web platform listening was established we were proactive with Smartphone app listening. We were the first Irish Media company to launch iPhone, Android, Nokia and iPad apps, picking up awards in the process. For Android we recognised early that android would be a force to be reckoned with and launched these apps very early.

 
Radio You Can See

Communicorp measure everything and Digital facilitates this ethos. While measuring online traffic we noticed a lot of our audience visited our presenter pages to see what the presenters looked like. Sticking to our goals of giving our audience what they want we decided to be proactive with this.

Radio you can See was born, a high quality stream of each station studio. Viewership grew rapidly and is currently over 120,000 unique viewers monthly. Communicorp built the technology that fuelled this phenomenon. There are further development plans in progress.

 
Rules of Engagement

After growing our digital audience to just under 1M Unique Users per month and our digital listenership to over 600,000 listeners we have now focussed on involving this significant audience in each station’s day to day output. While each station has a significant social following on Facebook and Twitter, (Spin 1038 winning best Facebook Page in 2011) we strive to increasingly involve the audience.

 
YouTube for Journalism

While managing digital content on Newstalk 106 – 108 we noticed a huge amount of passionate comments about society, sporting events and political issues. We thought this content should get published and the audience be heard if they so wish. This lead to our custom produced tool YouReport. With YouReport our audience can not only get rewarded for their content production, but create a digital profile at the same time, earning badges as they contribute and winning prizes along the way.
