LUCY GAFFNEY

 

Lucy is the Chairman of Communicorp Group Limited, an expanding communications group with media interests in Ireland, Europe and the Middle East. Communicorp has 40 radio stations across Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Ireland, Jordan and Latvia. The Group includes two national radio stations – Today FM and Newstalk 106-108 – in Ireland, and 98FM, Spin 103.8 and Phantom 105.2 in Dublin.

As Managing Director of The Ideas Company, Lucy Gaffney joined Esat Digifone as an advisor in its bid and subsequent launch as Ireland’s second GSM mobile phone operator. She then joined the core team and served in a number of various senior positions within the company including Managing Director Esat Clear, residential division, Director of Marketing of Esat Telecom Group plc and Chief Operating Officer.

Lucy is a founding director of Digicel Group since its launch in Jamaica in 2001. Today the Digicel Group has extended its operations to 32 markets with over 11.9 million subscribers in the Caribbean, Central America and South Pacific regions, including Jamaica, Haiti, Panama and Papua New Guinea.

From March 2005 to December 2008, Ms. Gaffney held the position of Chairperson of the National Action Plan against Racism in Ireland (NAPR). She has previously held directorships in Special Olympics, First Active plc, Campus Stadium Ireland and Ulster Bank Limited, a subsidiary of the Royal Bank of Scotland.

In March 2009, Lucy was appointed to the Board of Independent News & Media PLC as a Non-Executive Director.
